The iconic Cyndi Lauper was formally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by the self-proclaimed Midwest Princess, Chappell Roan, in a glittery cosmic convergence on Saturday night. The ceremony took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, where Roan delivered a heartfelt speech honoring Lauper’s impact on the music industry and the LGBTQ community.

Roan began her speech by expressing her admiration for Lauper, describing her as a born performer, revolutionary songwriter, fashion icon, and fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community. She reminisced about performing Lauper’s hit song “True Colors” at a talent show when she was 14 years old, highlighting the song’s message of love and acceptance that continues to resonate with audiences today.

During the ceremony, Lauper performed “True Colors” and was joined by a vertical rainbow/pride flag unfurling behind her on stage, symbolizing her unwavering support for the LGBTQ community. In her acceptance speech, Lauper thanked her band and reflected on her journey as a female artist in the rock industry.

Roan praised Lauper’s authenticity and courage, noting her evolution from singing in cover bands to becoming a global superstar with hits like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” She highlighted Lauper’s versatility in exploring different music genres and her advocacy work for LGBTQ rights through her non-profit organization, True Colors United.

Lauper, known for her irreverent humor, thanked her supporters and collaborators, including her mom, record executives, producers, and road crew. She emphasized the importance of unity in the music industry and encouraged artists to use their platform for good. Lauper’s speech reflected her belief in the power of rock ‘n’ roll to inspire change and create a sense of community.
