Betty Harford, Beloved Actress from “Dynasty” and “The Paper Chase,” Passes Away at 98
Betty Harford, known for her roles in popular TV shows like “Dynasty” and “The Paper Chase,” passed away on November 2 at the age of 98. The sad news was confirmed by her friend Wendy Mitchell in a heartfelt post on Facebook.
Harford gained recognition for her portrayal of Ms. Nottingham, the secretary to law school professor Charles W. Kingsfield, in the CBS drama “The Paper Chase.” She appeared in 41 episodes of the series during its initial run from 1978 to 1979 on CBS, followed by three more seasons on Showtime from 1983 to 1986.
In addition to her role on “The Paper Chase,” Harford captivated audiences with her portrayal of cook Hilda Gunnerson in the long-running soap opera “Dynasty.” She appeared in 34 episodes of the show over eight seasons, reprising her character for the 1991 reunion miniseries, “Dynasty: The Reunion.”
Born in New York City, Harford’s acting career began in the 1950s with appearances on radio and television shows like “Gunsmoke” and “Crime Classics.” Her talent and versatility led her to guest roles on iconic series such as “Alfred Hitchcock Presents,” “The Twilight Zone,” and “Dr. Kildare.”
Harford’s film credits include roles in classics like “Spartacus” (1960) and “The China Syndrome” (1979), showcasing her range as an actress. She also appeared in various TV shows and films throughout her career, leaving a lasting impact on audiences.
Aside from her successful acting career, Harford’s personal life was also noteworthy. She was married to sculptor Oliver Andrews before their separation in the late 1970s. She later remarried Hungarian actor Alex de Naszody, who sadly passed away. Harford is survived by her son Chris, from her first marriage, and her grandsons.
