During a historically long government shutdown, CNN’s Erica Hill criticized President Donald Trump for heading to Florida for the weekend, leaving Americans grappling with the consequences. “Tonight, for the first time, many Americans find themselves feeling the effects of the longest government shutdown on record,” Hill remarked on “The Source with Kaitlan Collins” from Reagan National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.
“The House has been in session for just 20 days over the last five months,” Hill pointed out. “Meantime, earlier at the White House, before jetting off to Florida, the president continued to insist that despite what you see when you go to the store, or maybe when you pay a bill, he says, things are getting cheaper.”
The impact of the shutdown is being felt by air travelers who have faced thousands of flight cancellations due to delayed paychecks for air traffic controllers. Additionally, Americans relying on SNAP food benefits may see their November payments partially or delayed because Congress failed to appropriate funds.
Late Friday night, the Supreme Court granted the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments. However, as the shutdown enters day 38, Republicans rejected Democrats’ offer to end it, with Trump demanding Senate Republicans to remain in Washington, D.C., until a deal is reached.
On Saturday morning, the president criticized Democrats on his Truth Social platform, accusing them of harming the economy while on a golf trip in West Palm Beach, according to reports from Mediaite.
