Light Rail Routes Fully Reopened After Power Outage in Denver

Two light rail routes in Denver were fully reopened on Sunday evening following a power outage caused by a non-RTD vehicle crashing into a power pole on South Mariposa Street. The incident occurred at around 4 p.m., resulting in a power line falling onto the light rail tracks and disrupting service, according to RTD spokesperson Stuart Summers.

The closure affected parts of the D Line, which operates between Littleton Mineral Station and Union Station, and the E Line, which runs between Union Station and Ridgegate Parkway Station. Four stations along the overlapping route were temporarily closed, including I-25/Broadway, Alameda, 10th/Osage, and Auraria West, as confirmed by the agency.

During the outage, shuttle buses were deployed to replace the light rail service in the affected area. Trains resumed normal operations just before 6 p.m. after Xcel officials safely removed the downed power pole. However, riders should anticipate moderate delays on the D Line and E Line as service returns to schedule throughout the evening, Summers added.

This is a developing story and updates may follow.
