Bret Baier Defends Aggressive Interview Style with Kamala Harris

Bret Baier is standing by his approach to interviewing after facing criticism for his intense questioning of Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News.

Baier’s interview with Harris on Oct. 16 garnered attention, sparking discussions and even a parody on “Saturday Night Live” with Alec Baldwin portraying the Fox News anchor. Many viewers took issue with Baier’s frequent interruptions during the interview.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Baier defended his interruptions as a strategy to steer Harris away from rehearsed talking points. He explained that without his interjections, Harris would dominate the conversation, leaving little room for a balanced exchange.

According to CNN, Baier interrupted Harris more frequently than he did with former President Trump in a similar interview setting. The parody on “SNL” captured the essence of the interview, with Maya Rudolph’s Harris urging Baldwin’s Baier to listen to her responses amidst his interruptions.

Reflecting on the interview, Baier acknowledged the campaign’s strategy to create viral moments but expressed a desire for a more substantial conversation. He noted that his previous interview with Trump had a similar tone, with interruptions aimed at redirecting the conversation away from scripted responses.

Despite the backlash, Baier remains open to the idea of interviewing Harris again, emphasizing the importance of challenging candidates with tough but fair questions for the benefit of viewers and voters.

“I’d love to try again,” Baier stated. “The more candidates face tough but fair questions, the better it is for viewers and voters, and actually the better it is for candidates.”
