A tragic incident unfolded near Times Square early Monday morning when a young man, Daevon Silva, was brutally beaten and stabbed to death by three unidentified assailants who are currently on the run, as reported by police and sources.

According to reports, Silva, 23, was attacked with a baseball bat and then stabbed in the back and right thigh by the trio of thugs just after 1 a.m. near 49th Street and Seventh Avenue. Sources suggest that the motive behind the attack might be drug-related. The victim, who is said to have an address in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was swiftly taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

Authorities are actively searching for the three males involved in the stabbing. Descriptions provided indicate that one suspect was wearing a purple sweater and black ski mask, another was dressed in a black jacket, dark pants, and brown boots, while the third was seen in all black attire. It is believed that at least one of the suspects had a prior acquaintance with the victim, and a dispute between them escalated into the fatal violence.

Silva had no criminal record in New York but had a minor history of offenses in Rhode Island, according to sources. The shocking nature of the murder has left both residents and tourists in the area unsettled, with one tourist from San Francisco expressing their concerns about the safety of the city.

This tragic incident adds to a series of high-profile crimes that have recently occurred in Midtown Manhattan, including the shooting death of a 39-year-old man just a day prior. Additionally, New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, 29, was shot and injured outside a club in Midtown while in the company of teammates earlier in November.

The rise in violent crimes in the area is evident from the statistics provided by the NYPD. Midtown South precinct has witnessed two homicides this year compared to four in the entirety of 2024, while felony assaults have increased by approximately 3%. Similarly, in the Midtown North precinct, there has been a higher murder rate this year with an overall figure of five through November 16, accompanied by an 11.6% increase in felony assaults year-to-year.

The authorities are actively investigating these incidents to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors in Midtown Manhattan.
