‘Slender Man’ stabber Morgan Geyser ‘red flags’ ahead of release

Morgan Geyser, one of the infamous “Slender Man” stabbers, recently made headlines after escaping from a group home. Surprisingly, she had been released from a psychiatric hospital earlier this year, despite numerous red flags raised by prosecutors.

It was revealed that Geyser was fixated on a disturbing novel called “Rent Boy,” which depicted murder and organ trafficking on the black market. She failed to disclose this information to her therapy team, along with her communication with a murder memorabilia collector. She even sent him a sketch of her decapitated body and expressed a desire for a sexual relationship.

During a hearing, Waukesha County prosecutor Abbey Nickolie expressed concerns about these red flags, but Geyser only mentioned them when asked by her treatment team. Despite these warning signs, a judge ruled in January that she could leave the psychiatric hospital where she had been for seven years.

However, in March, state health officials urged the judge to reconsider this decision due to Geyser’s troubling behavior. Her victim’s mother expressed concerns about Geyser’s new group home being close to their residence, prompting health officials to come up with a new plan.

Geyser’s attorney defended her by stating that her reading material was approved by the staff at the psychiatric facility and that she read a variety of books, including biographies. He criticized the state’s attempt to keep her in the hospital, claiming she was not a danger to the public.

Despite these arguments, Geyser managed to escape from her group home by cutting off her ankle tag and fleeing to Illinois with a friend. This incident reignited the public’s interest in the case that shocked the nation back in 2014.

Geyser, along with her accomplice Anissa Weier, lured their classmate Payton Leutner to a park and brutally stabbed her, claiming they were following orders from the fictional character Slender Man. Leutner miraculously survived the attack and the perpetrators were later found guilty but declared not responsible due to mental illness.

In 2018, Geyser was committed to 40 years in a psychiatric hospital, while Weier received a 25-year commitment. Weier was granted release in 2021 under certain conditions. The case of the Slender Man stabbing continues to be a chilling reminder of the impact of internet myths and the consequences of untreated mental illness.
