Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information that can help identify the individuals responsible for the tragic death of 26-year-old Aric White Jr. during a violent auto-theft incident in Bridgeport last year. White lost his life after gunmen opened fire on him and his girlfriend as they searched for his stolen SUV around 3 a.m. on May 6, 2024.

The stolen SUV had been taken just moments before, prompting White and his girlfriend to use her car to search for it. While driving through the neighborhood, they encountered a group of suspected auto thieves traveling in a red Jeep, a black Dodge Challenger, and a light-colored Chevy SUV. Someone from this group opened fire, injuring White’s girlfriend in the arm and fatally shooting White in the head as he was driving. The car crashed into a home in the 3100 block of South May Street, and White was rushed to Stroger Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities believe that the offenders fled to the Dan Ryan Expressway and headed towards the south suburban area of Glenwood, where White’s burned SUV was later discovered. Cook County Crime Stoppers emphasizes that their system ensures complete anonymity for tipsters. Those who come forward with information are not required to disclose their names, their phone calls are not traced, and all information provided is kept confidential. A $10,000 cash reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in connection to White’s murder. Tips can be submitted by calling 1-800-535-STOP.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of community cooperation in solving crimes and bringing justice to victims and their families. Cook County Crime Stoppers plays a crucial role in facilitating this process by providing a platform for individuals to come forward with vital information without fear of reprisal. The organization’s commitment to maintaining the anonymity of tipsters ensures that those who wish to assist in solving crimes can do so without compromising their safety.

As we reflect on this senseless act of violence, it is imperative that we come together as a community to support law enforcement efforts in identifying and apprehending those responsible for Aric White Jr.’s untimely death. By working together and utilizing resources such as Crime Stoppers, we can help bring closure to grieving families and ensure that justice is served.
