Art Movements is a weekly roundup of the latest news, appointments, awards, and other events in the art world. This week, three art-world heavyweights from Pace, Di Donna, and Sotheby’s are teaming up to open a new secondary sales gallery named PDS. Pace, Emmanuel Di Donna, and David Schrader of Sotheby’s will collaborate to establish Pace Di Donna Schrader Galleries in Manhattan’s Upper East Side early next year. The gallery will focus on secondary sales and promises to bring a fresh perspective to the art scene.

In other news, Stephen Friedman Gallery will be closing its New York location in Tribeca in the coming months, while Lohaus Sominsky, a Munich-based gallery, is set to open a new space in the same neighborhood next month. The ever-changing landscape of the art world continues to evolve, with new galleries emerging and established ones making strategic moves.

Moving on to public art, Ifeoma Ebo, Stephen Kwok, and Mauricio Higuera have been named the next Public Artists in Residence in New York City. Over the next year, they will collaborate with specific agencies to create public artworks that engage with the community and reflect the diverse perspectives of the city.

The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) is also making headlines with the launch of a new fair, following the cancellation of this year’s Art Show. The new fair aims to benefit the Manhattan social services nonprofit Henry Street Settlement and provide a platform for artists and galleries to showcase their work.

In a show of support for art writers and translators, the Andy Warhol Foundation has awarded over $1 million in grants to 28 writers and three translators. This recognition of their work is a testament to the importance of arts journalism and translation in the art world.

With so much happening in the art world, from new gallery openings to prestigious awards and appointments, it’s clear that the creative community is thriving and evolving. Stay tuned for more updates and insights from the ever-changing world of art.
