Apple Introduces New Customization Feature in iOS 26.2 Update

Apple has rolled out a new tool in its latest iOS 26.2 update that allows users to control the transparency of the Lock Screen’s clock, addressing concerns raised by users regarding the visibility of certain interface elements. This update follows a previous release that introduced a slider for managing the opacity of Liquid Glass elements throughout the operating system.

The Liquid Glass design language, introduced with iOS 26, features semi-transparent interface elements like buttons, sliders, and notifications that refract light to mimic the optical properties of glass. While aimed at modernizing Apple’s operating systems and potentially preparing for future advancements like AI smart glasses, the design received mixed reviews from users.

Some users found the transparency of Liquid Glass elements challenging to navigate, particularly when it came to reading essential information such as notifications or artist names in Apple Music. In response to these concerns, Apple introduced a tool in iOS 26.1 that allowed users to revert to a more traditional interface appearance if desired.

With the latest update introducing a slider for adjusting the Clock’s “glassiness,” Apple is once again providing users with the ability to customize the level of transparency in their device’s interface. This approach allows for individualized customization rather than a global change across all devices.

These recent adjustments suggest that Apple acknowledges the need for ongoing refinement of the Liquid Glass design. The departure of design executive Alan Dye, who spearheaded the Liquid Glass makeover, and the appointment of Stephen Lemay, a seasoned interface and interaction designer, further emphasize Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience.

Aside from the Liquid Glass customization feature, iOS 26.2 introduces several new enhancements. Users can now generate AirDrop codes to share with non-contacts, enabling temporary access for file sharing. Additionally, Reminders now support alarms, Apple News features a Following tab, Apple Music offers offline lyrics, and the Podcasts app includes AI-generated chapters and a Podcast Mention feature.

Apple Watch users will benefit from a new Sleep Score feature that evaluates sleep quality and goal achievement. Furthermore, Apple has released crucial security updates across its product lineup to address vulnerabilities exploited in active hacking attempts.
