5.6 Million People Affected by Data Breach at 700Credit

A staggering 5.6 million individuals have fallen victim to a data breach at 700Credit, a company specializing in credit checks and identity verification services for auto dealerships nationwide. The breach, which occurred in October, resulted in the theft of sensitive information including names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers.

700Credit, based in Michigan, has attributed the breach to an unknown malicious actor. The company issued a statement on its website addressing the incident and acknowledging the severity of the breach.

Michigan’s attorney general has confirmed that the hacker obtained personal data gathered from dealers over a period spanning from May to October of 2025. This breach has raised concerns about the security protocols in place to safeguard sensitive consumer information.

In response to the breach, 700Credit has begun sending out letters to individuals whose data was compromised, offering credit monitoring services as a precautionary measure. Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel emphasized the importance of taking immediate action to protect one’s personal information in the wake of such breaches.

“If you receive a notification from 700Credit, it is crucial not to disregard it,” Nessel advised. “Taking proactive steps such as implementing a credit freeze or utilizing monitoring services can significantly reduce the risk of identity theft. I urge affected individuals to leverage the available resources to safeguard their identity.”
