Google has recently rolled out the Android 16 QPR2 update for Pixel smartphone users, offering a host of new features and tools as part of the December Pixel Drop. This update goes beyond just the December 2025 security patch, providing Pixel 6 users and newer models with a range of enhancements.

If you own a Google Pixel phone, you can check for the update by going to Settings > System > Software updates and tapping System update. Here are seven standout features from the Android 16 update:

  1. Pin Tabs in Chrome: Users can now pin tabs to the top of the Chrome web browser, making it easier to access frequently visited websites without losing track of them.
  2. AI Notification Summaries: Google introduces smart AI-powered summaries for incoming notifications, allowing users to quickly glance at their contents without having to open each notification individually.
  3. Urgent Call Alerts: With the Call Reason feature (currently in beta), users can flag a call to a saved contact as "urgent," signaling the importance of the call to the recipient and prompting them to call back promptly.
  4. AI Scam Detection: Circle to Search feature can now check incoming messages for potential scams, providing users with an AI overview of the message’s legitimacy and offering guidance on next steps if it’s deemed suspicious.
  5. Expressive Captions in Live Videos: This feature detects emotions expressed in live videos and adds appropriate emotion tags, enhancing the viewing experience for users who rely on video transcription.
  6. New Split Screen Options: Android 16’s update introduces a split-screen option that allows users to run two apps in a 90:10 split ratio, offering a flexible way to multitask and allocate screen space efficiently.
  7. Emoji Mash-Ups: Gboard now includes a feature that combines two emojis to create new, evolved emoji types. For example, combining a hug emoji and a monkey emoji results in a pair of hugging monkeys, adding a playful touch to messaging.

These new features add functionality and convenience to Pixel devices, enhancing the user experience and keeping Google’s Android ecosystem at the forefront of innovation. Explore the latest Android 16 update to make the most of these exciting additions.
