Science has faced numerous challenges in 2025, from the undermining of scientific research funding to the lack of global action on climate change. Despite these obstacles, advocates for rationality and evidence continue to fight back against the threats to scientific progress.

The Trump Administration and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have significantly reduced funding for disease and biomedical research, posing a risk to public health. The cuts in funding have hindered the discovery of new treatments, advancements in technology, and scientific breakthroughs.

Commercial interests have also played a role in distorting scientific facts. Companies like Colossal Biosciences have made sensational claims about genetic modifications and de-extinction efforts, drawing attention away from credible scientific research.

In a similar vein, the broadcast of the UK documentary “Hitler’s DNA: Blueprint of a dictator” raised controversy by sensationalizing scientific findings without proper peer-reviewed publication. Sensationalism in science undermines the credibility of research and misleads the public.

On the global front, the failure of nations to meet their climate action pledges outlined in the Paris Agreement is a cause for concern. Despite the agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C, countries have fallen short in implementing necessary measures to combat climate change.

Amidst these challenges, there have been bright spots in the realm of science. The 100-year anniversary of quantum mechanics marked a significant milestone, with experiments validating the bizarre principles of quantum mechanics. Additionally, advancements in GLP-1 drugs and the discovery of a new color have showcased the potential of science to transform medicine and uncover new wonders.

As we enter 2026, it is essential to recognize the value of scientific inquiry in addressing global challenges and improving our understanding of the world. Despite setbacks and skeptics, science remains a powerful tool for progress and discovery, offering solutions to complex problems and enriching our lives.

Looking ahead to the new year, let us embrace the spirit of scientific exploration and innovation, striving for a future where science serves, saves, and delights us all.
