Tramell Tillman, known for his role in “Severance,” recently spoke out about the need for more representation and visibility for the LGBTQ community. At the Golden Globes luncheon for first-time nominees, Tillman emphasized the importance of having diverse voices and stories in the entertainment industry, not just in the United States but worldwide.

“We’re being silenced and pushed apart,” Tillman expressed, highlighting the struggles faced by the LGBTQ community. He stressed the need for more appearances and presence across various platforms to uplift and support the community, especially the trans community. Despite the challenges, Tillman remains optimistic, stating, “We have each other. We’ll get through it. We will push past this, and we will survive because we always do, and we always have.”

Tillman’s journey to acceptance and success in the industry has been a remarkable one. Coming out as bisexual in his 20s and later as gay, Tillman faced concerns from his mother about potential career repercussions. However, those worries proved unfounded as Tillman made history as the first openly gay Black man to be nominated for an Emmy in the supporting actor drama category for his role in “Severance,” ultimately winning the prestigious award.

Looking ahead, Tillman has a role in the upcoming film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” fulfilling a childhood dream of being part of a superhero movie. While he couldn’t reveal much about his character, Tillman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the Marvel universe. Additionally, Tillman shared his aspiration to work on a movie musical, citing “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” as one of his favorite musicals due to its dark and edgy themes.

As the 83rd Annual Golden Globes approaches, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Sunday, Jan. 11, Tillman’s presence and advocacy for LGBTQ representation serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the community. Through his work and dedication, Tillman continues to pave the way for greater visibility and acceptance in the entertainment industry.
