The Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida recently made an arrest in connection with the theft of a box of donated toys. Cecilia Josephine Milano, a 64-year-old woman, was apprehended on December 18 for allegedly stealing the box of toys from a restaurant in Jensen Beach. The toys were intended for a local organization called Elev8Hope, which helps needy families during the holiday season.

According to security footage, Milano was seen dragging the large cardboard box filled with toys out of the restaurant. When confronted by a patron, she claimed she was taking the toys to a donation center, although she was never authorized to do so. The authorities were able to identify Milano from tips received after sharing the security footage.

Paul Kemp, a chef at the restaurant, expressed shock at the incident, as none of the staff noticed the theft due to the busy environment. However, they were grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness for Elev8Hope and turn the negative incident into a positive outcome.

Christine DiCondina, the house manager, described Milano’s actions as akin to the Grinch stealing Christmas. Despite the setback, the restaurant continued to collect donations for Elev8Hope until December 22.

In response to the theft, patrons like Kitti Parker rallied together to replace the stolen toys with even more donations, emphasizing the spirit of giving during the holiday season.

Milano was charged with one count of simple theft and her bail was set at $2,500. The status of the recovered toys and Milano’s legal representation were not disclosed at the time of writing.

During her arrest, Milano was wearing a shirt with the word “Queen” printed on it, a stark contrast to her alleged criminal behavior. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office commended their deputies for apprehending the “Grinch” and holding her accountable for the theft.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and generosity, especially during the holiday season. Despite the setback, the restaurant and its patrons were able to come together to make a positive impact and continue their charitable efforts.
