Steve McQueen’s Family Sues for $70M Art of Warhol & Stolen Pollock Painting
Steve McQueen, the iconic actor known for his roles in films such as The Getaway, had a tumultuous history with a married couple, the Borcherts, over a valuable painting by artist Jackson Pollock. The painting was transferred to the Borcherts by McQueen, but the deal soured when one of them crashed a motorcycle and the title deed for a property in Latigo Canyon was never transferred.
According to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Steve McQueen demanded the return of the Pollock painting after the deal fell through, but the Borcherts failed to comply. Even after McQueen’s untimely death at the age of 50 in 1980, the Borcherts did not return the painting to his estate.
Now, decades later, the painting is in the possession of Brent Borchert, the son of the couple who passed away. Steve McQueen’s family, represented by their lawyers, are suing Brent Borchert for the return of the painting, which is now valued at $70 million.
This legal battle over the stolen Pollock painting is just one chapter in the complex and dramatic history of Steve McQueen’s legacy. The actor, often referred to as the “King of Cool,” left behind a lasting impact on Hollywood and the world of entertainment.
As the lawsuit unfolds, the fate of the valuable painting hangs in the balance, with both parties vying for ownership and control over this piece of art history.
