Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes are heading to the postseason after a hard-fought victory over Cincinnati. In just his second season as head coach, Sanders has turned around a struggling program, taking them from the worst power-conference team in college football to a bowl-eligible contender.

The Buffaloes, with a record of 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big 12, haven’t seen postseason action since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. Their last bowl game victory dates back to 2004, but this year could mark a turning point for the program, with aspirations beyond just a bowl game appearance.

Sanders has been vocal about his promise to 99-year-old superfan Peggy Coppom to get her to a bowl game this season. The team’s success has put them in contention for the Big 12 title and a spot in the College Football Playoff, reserved for the highest-ranked conference champions.

Star player Travis Hunter showcased his talents in the recent game, re-entering the Heisman Trophy race with an impressive performance on both offense and defense. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders also had a strong showing, despite a hip injury in the second half.

Under new defensive coordinator Rob Livingston, the Buffaloes have improved on the defensive end and found success in the running game. Sanders’ approach to roster building, which includes transfers, has faced criticism but is yielding results this season.

The upcoming games against Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State will be crucial in determining how far the Buffaloes can go this season. With fans excited and the team hungry for more success, Colorado is poised to make a statement in the postseason.
