A second suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a brutal robbery that took place on a Red Line train in the Loop during the summer. Curtis Freeman, 18, was taken into custody by Chicago police on Monday for his alleged involvement in the August 13 attack. He is set to appear for a detention hearing on Tuesday.

According to prosecutors, Freeman and another suspect, 28-year-old Nathan Emerson, were part of a group that viciously attacked and punched a 42-year-old man on the train at around 7 a.m. The assailants stole the victim’s phone, wallet, and bag before fleeing the scene.

Surveillance images released by the police on September 1 showed five individuals wanted in connection with the robbery. Emerson, who was arrested and charged last month, confessed to his participation in the assault.

Freeman, like Emerson, is facing one count of felony robbery for his role in the incident.

CWBChicago, a local news outlet, was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. The coverage area of CWBChicago has since expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Despite this growth, their mission remains consistent: to deliver original reporting on public safety issues with more depth and context than traditional media sources.
