Disney to Bring Short-Form Video Content to Disney+ in a Bid to Boost Engagement

In a move inspired by the success of platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, Disney has announced plans to introduce short-form video content to Disney+ in the U.S. this year. The announcement was made during Disney’s Tech + Data Showcase event at CES 2026.

According to a blog post by the company, this new feature is set to enhance the overall user experience on Disney+ by offering a more personalized and dynamic experience. Disney aims to position Disney+ as a daily destination for entertainment and news consumption.

Deadline reports that the short-form videos on Disney+ could range from original content specifically created for this format to repurposed social media clips, snippets from TV shows or movies, or a combination of these elements. Erin Teague, EVP of Product Management for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, emphasized the importance of integrating vertical video seamlessly into the platform to align with user preferences.

This strategic move follows Disney’s successful launch of a personalized vertical video feed within the ESPN app last year. By incorporating short-form video content, Disney+ aims to attract a younger audience that gravitates towards quick, snackable content on their mobile devices.

While Disney+ is paving the way for short-form video on its platform, it’s worth noting that Netflix also dipped its toes into this format by introducing a vertical video feed for its original titles last year.
