Thousands of individuals took to the streets in Minneapolis and various locations across the United States on Saturday to protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Leah Greenberg, co-executive director of Indivisible and a key organizer of the āICE Out for Good Weekend of Action,ā anticipated over 1,000 demonstrations nationwide over the weekend.
āThis weekend, communities are uniting not only to mourn the lives lost to ICE violence but also to address the ongoing harm that has separated families and instilled fear in our neighborhoods,ā Greenberg stated in a press release.
The protests were triggered by the recent tragic killing of Renee Good by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis. A video captured Ross shooting Good three times as she attempted to drive away from a residential area.
āIām not angry with you, itās okay, dude,ā Good said to Ross moments before he opened fire.
As Ross walked away from the scene, he could be heard muttering, āF*ing b**.ā
Protesters are demanding that ICE agents vacate their cities and cease their practice of apprehending individuals off the streets.
Some members of law enforcement have also expressed their dissatisfaction with ICE. Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal labeled ICE agents as āwannabe law enforcementā and warned that any agent committing a crime in Philadelphia would be apprehended.
āIf you want trouble, we will bring it to you,ā Bilal cautioned.
