The Bronx District Attorney’s Office announced that David Mosley, a 26-year-old aspiring rapper known by the alias Church of Ububal, has been indicted on animal cruelty charges. Mosley was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice George Villegas on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and torturing and injuring animals. He pleaded not guilty to the heinous act that caused outrage after he posted a photo of a dead cat, covered in blood, on his now-deleted Instagram account on October 22.

Just days before the disturbing incident, Mosley had posted a photo of himself with the cat while it was still alive. Surveillance footage revealed Mosley carrying the cat into his apartment on October 9. Despite the evidence, Mosley claimed that he found the cat already deceased. In a livestream video on YouTube, he dismissed the incident as a joke and taunted animal lovers. The sacrificial act was allegedly meant to generate attention for his upcoming rap album release.

During a court appearance in November, Judge Linda Poust Lopez expressed her determination to seek the maximum sentence for Mosley on the animal cruelty charge. She emphasized the importance of Mosley attending mental health appointments. The animal cruelty charge carries a possible two-year sentence, which Lopez is adamant about imposing.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark condemned Mosley’s actions, stating, “This defendant is accused of the torture of a stray cat that he took into his home. The defendant’s alleged shocking behavior included posting images of a dead cat on social media and bragging about what he had allegedly done.” Mosley is scheduled to appear in court again on March 17.
