As we approach the one-year mark of the second Trump administration, it is essential to reflect on the detrimental impact it has had on climate and clean energy progress in our nation. Families are struggling to pay rising energy bills as the administration undermines clean energy projects and promotes harmful fossil fuels. With the world on the verge of exceeding 1.5°C of global warming, the administration’s actions to increase heat-trapping emissions will have long-lasting consequences for both people and the economy.

From the beginning, it was evident that this administration had a disregard for science and a focus on advancing a fossil fuel agenda at the expense of public health and welfare. President Trump surrounded himself with unqualified individuals who prioritized his interests over those of the public. This authoritarian regime has dismantled climate and clean energy policies, spread misinformation about climate change and renewable energy, and pushed for policies that benefit polluters. Congress has enabled these destructive actions, further exacerbating the situation.

The administration has taken nearly 300 actions to roll back climate and clean energy progress, affecting agencies and organizations engaged in life-saving climate research, data collection, and monitoring. The Department of Commerce, under Secretary Howard Lutnick, has undermined climate science and weather forecasting capabilities, putting communities at risk. The Department of Energy, led by Secretary Chris Wright, has attacked clean energy, rolled back energy efficiency standards, and hindered renewable energy projects.

Furthermore, the Environmental Protection Agency, under Administrator Lee Zeldin, has weakened regulations aimed at limiting pollution from various industries. The agency is also working to overturn the science-based Endangerment Finding, which establishes the health impacts of heat-trapping emissions. The administration has also withdrawn from international climate agreements and organizations, isolating the United States and undermining global cooperation.

Despite these challenges, there have been efforts to expose and combat the administration’s harmful policies. Organizations like the Union of Concerned Scientists have taken legal action, advocated with members of Congress, and mobilized the scientific community to push back against these destructive actions. As we face another challenging year under the Trump administration, it is crucial to continue fighting for science and democracy to build a better future for all.

In conclusion, the Trump administration’s attacks on climate and clean energy have had far-reaching consequences for people and the environment. It is imperative to resist these destructive policies and work towards a more sustainable and equitable future. Let’s stand together to protect our planet and create a brighter tomorrow.
