Cop Son Sues Dept. That Fired Him
Dog the Bounty Hunter‘s son, Garry Chapman, is taking legal action against the police department in Alabama that fired him and later reinstated him. Chapman alleges that he was unfairly disciplined as a result of speaking out against a corrupt officer within the department.
Chapman’s troubles began after he was involved in a fatal high-speed car chase, leading to his initial termination. Despite being reinstated, Chapman believes that the department used the incident as an excuse to tarnish his reputation and ultimately get rid of him.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal Chapman’s claims that the police department, along with Priceville Mayor Sam Heflin, orchestrated a campaign to discredit him following his complaint about a fellow officer’s misconduct. This led to a series of retaliatory actions against Chapman, including false accusations and a smear campaign.
Furthermore, Chapman alleges that he faced backlash for exposing an officer’s attempt to take a departmental K-9 as a personal pet upon leaving the force. This incident, coupled with the fatal car chase, resulted in Chapman being unfairly targeted and portrayed as the villain by the department and the mayor.
As a consequence of the negative publicity and the department’s actions, Chapman claims he has been unable to secure employment in law enforcement and has suffered significant reputational harm. He is seeking compensatory damages for the harm caused to his career and personal life.
