The latest international window for the U.S. women’s national team saw center back Naomi Girma shine in Louisville as the team secured its third victory. Head coach Emma Hayes managed a significant amount of evaluation during the October camp, despite the celebratory atmosphere of the team’s Olympics gold medal victory tour.

Hayes expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the camp, stating that she achieved her goals of providing debut opportunities to several players, managing minutes for those still involved in NWSL play, and working on specific training targets. Emphasizing the importance of club form, Hayes made the most of the roster spots available to her, giving opportunities to new and returning players alike.

Among the standout performers were seven uncapped players, all of whom earned their first USWNT minutes during the camp. Notably, Emma Sears impressed with a goal and assist in her debut, while Alyssa Malonson provided an assist to Girma in her first appearance. The camp also saw Alyssa Thompson score her first international goal upon her return to the national team.

While the friendlies were successful in achieving the team’s objectives and securing wins, Hayes is focused on the bigger picture and long-term development. The upcoming matches against England and the Netherlands will likely continue the trend of rotation and evaluation, as Hayes looks to build depth and experience within the squad.

Looking ahead, the USWNT is preparing for January’s Futures Camp, where Hayes plans to identify and develop talent alongside the senior team camp. With a wealth of options in every position and a clear emphasis on form and performance, making the U.S. roster has become more competitive and transparent than ever before.

The recent games mark the beginning of the journey towards the 2027 World Cup and the Los Angeles-hosted Olympics in 2028. While the team has made a strong start, there is still much work to be done in preparation for these major tournaments. Hayes has set the foundation for success, and the focus now is on continuing to build and improve as the team looks towards future challenges.

Overall, the October camp was a positive step forward for the USWNT, showcasing the depth and talent within the squad. With a clear vision and determination from coach Emma Hayes, the team is on track for continued success in the years to come.
