Emma Gretzky, the youngest daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, has announced her engagement to former college football player Stone Eby.
Emma, 23, expressed her excitement on Instagram on Tuesday, July 28, saying, “The easiest yes to a lifetime with you ❤️,” as she shared the news of their upcoming wedding.
The couple, both 23, began their relationship in November 2022. Eby, a former tight end at Southern Methodist University, and Emma welcomed their first child, a son named Walter, in August 2025.
Emma is the youngest of five children born to Wayne and his wife Janet Gretzky, who were married in July 1988. They also have a daughter, Paulina, 37, and sons Ty, 36, Trevor, 33, and Tristan, 25.
Janet, 65, congratulated her daughter on Instagram, saying, “Congratulations ♥️ Love You All!”
Paulina, who is married to PGA golfer Dustin Johnson, commented, “I’m crying!! No one deserves this more 🥹🫶🏼.”
Recently, the couple shared on social media that their 12-month-old son Walter had begun skating. Emma captioned the post, “He got it from his papa 🏒” along with photos of the family at an ice rink.
Emma and Eby met at SMU, where Emma was on the tennis team during her first two years. She graduated in the spring of 2025 with a degree in applied physiology and sports management.
Eby played in all 13 games during his redshirt senior season at SMU in 2025. Although he was invited to a rookie minicamp by the NFL’s Denver Broncos in April, he was not selected in the 2026 NFL Draft and did not make the team.
Wayne, 65, has always emphasized the importance of education for his children, alongside their sports endeavors.
Wayne once remarked to the Ventura County Star in 2019, “It’s the greatest life in the world to be a professional athlete, but I always tell parents, the goal should be to get to college. Pursue that, because there’s only a small percentage of athletes who are fortunate enough to be professionals. But everybody can get a great education, and to me, that’s most important.”
He added, “As parents, we decided to let our kids choose what they wanted to do. Each and every child has their love and their interest.”
Last year, Janet spoke out in defense of her husband against critics of his friendship with President Donald Trump. She stated in a since-deleted Instagram post, “I have never met anyone who is more Proud to be a Canadian and it has broken his heart to read and see the mean comments. He would do anything to make Canadians Proud, with his Love for Hockey and his Country.”
