The Crown Star Claire Foy Opens Up About Confronting Death, Balancing Motherhood, and Fighting Ageism in Entertainment Industry
In a recent interview, Claire Foy revealed that confronting death at a young age has shaped her perspective on life, pushing her towards optimism rather than despair. The actress expressed that being morbid doesn’t have to be negative, but rather a reminder to live each day to the fullest. Foy shared, “Because I was ill when I was younger, I just thought, ‘Let’s crack on!'”
Foy, who is a mother to her 10-year-old daughter Ivy, opened up about the challenges of balancing her career with motherhood. She candidly admitted, “Having a job and being a parent is a logistical s— show, that’s the truth of it. When it comes to making films and TV shows, the hours aren’t conducive to having a family, so there’s a lot of juggling and a lot of hoping for the best.”
Addressing ageism in the entertainment industry, Foy criticized the way women in midlife are often sidelined and overlooked. She stated, “I think the industry struggles with women between the age of 45 and 60. They don’t really know what to do with them. They’re like, ‘Who are you? You’re not a mother. Are you a mother? Or are you a grandmother?'”
Foy emphasized the importance of portraying authentic and relatable female characters on screen, saying, “I’ve always felt that it’s my responsibility to play the women I know and like, who are out there, and if I’m able to do that, I will.”
Despite the challenges she faces, Claire Foy remains resilient and determined to make her mark in the industry. Her candid insights into motherhood, ageism, and the value of living each day to the fullest serve as an inspiration to women everywhere.
