Google Photos has just rolled out an exciting new feature that allows users to create memes using their own images. This new generative AI-powered feature, called “Me Meme,” was officially introduced by Google on Thursday. With Me Meme, users can combine a photo template with an image of themselves to generate a meme image.

Originally spotted in development last October by Android Authority, this feature is now available to U.S.-based users. Google announced the official launch of Me Meme via its Photos Community site. The tech giant advises users to upload well-lit, focused, and front-facing photos for the best results, as the generated images may not perfectly match the original photo due to the experimental nature of the feature.

The addition of Me Meme is a fun way for users to explore their photos and experiment with Google’s Gemini AI technology, particularly Nano Banana. This AI image model also powers other features in the Google Photos app, such as the ability to recreate images in different styles like cartoons or paintings. While Me Meme may seem like a lighthearted addition, it serves as a reminder for users to engage with AI tools within the Photos app, rather than seeking similar features elsewhere.

Users are often drawn to features that incorporate themselves into AI edits, as demonstrated by the success of OpenAI’s Sora app, which allows users to create AI videos featuring themselves and their friends. Although Me Meme is not yet fully rolled out, Google plans to make it available under the “Create” tab in the Google Photos app for U.S. iOS and Android users in the coming weeks.

To use Me Meme, users can select a template or upload their own, then add a photo and tap “Generate.” Google is continuously adding more templates to enhance the user experience. Once the AI generates the image, users can save it, share it on other platforms, or choose to regenerate the image for a different result.

As technology continues to evolve, Google Photos remains at the forefront of AI-powered features, providing users with innovative tools to enhance their photo-sharing experience. Stay tuned for the official rollout of Me Meme and start creating your own personalized memes with Google Photos.
