Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, currently plying his trade at Atletico Madrid. The Argentine forward has been in impressive form since joining Atletico, scoring 40 goals in 85 games. Alvarez made the switch to LaLiga in 2024 following Erling Haaland’s arrival at Manchester City, which limited his playing time.

According to reports from talkSPORT, Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta is driving the pursuit of Alvarez, leveraging his strong connections with Atletico after spending over a decade at the club before moving to Arsenal in 2025. Berta was instrumental in bringing Alvarez to Atletico from Manchester City for a reported fee of €95 million.

Despite his success at Atletico, reports suggest that the club could consider selling Alvarez for the right price, rumored to be around €100 million. The 25-year-old was part of Manchester City’s treble-winning squad in the 2022/23 season, playing a key role in their success.

Arsenal signed Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP last summer, but the Swedish striker has struggled to make an impact, scoring only nine goals in 27 appearances. The Gunners are now looking to bolster their attacking options with the potential addition of Alvarez.

While Arsenal are keen on acquiring Alvarez, they face competition from other top clubs, including Barcelona. However, a move in the January transfer window seems unlikely, as Atletico are determined to retain the talented forward. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez is keeping his options open and could consider a move in the summer.

Romano stated on his YouTube channel, “Atletico Madrid want to keep the player, but on the other side there is the player and his representatives, and Alvarez is keeping his options open. Several top clubs are monitoring the situation because he is one of the most wanted strikers in Europe.”

As the saga unfolds, it remains to be seen whether Alvarez will make a move in the summer transfer window. With Atletico keen on retaining him and the player exploring his options, the final decision will likely hinge on discussions between the parties involved.
