Daniel Perez (Chicago Police Department)

Repeat Offender Arrested for Second Shooting Just Months After Parole Release

CHICAGO — Daniel Perez, a 29-year-old man with an extensive criminal history, has been taken back into custody for allegedly shooting another person shortly after being released on parole for a previous shooting incident in 2016.

During a court hearing, Judge William Fahy ordered Perez to be detained as a public safety risk, highlighting the seriousness of the charges against him. The state is currently reviewing Perez’s parole status in light of the new allegations.

According to prosecutors, Perez shot a 33-year-old man in the face during an encounter at a liquor store in the 3900 block of North Narragansett late on October 11.

Law enforcement officials from the Chicago Police Department and the Illinois Department of Corrections apprehended Perez in the 5200 block of North Lieb this week. He is facing charges of attempted murder, armed habitual criminal, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Records from the state and courthouse indicate that Perez was released from prison in mid-March after pleading guilty to two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm in a 2016 case. In that incident, Perez and another individual were accused of shooting two men in the legs and attempting to shoot a third person in the 4800 block of West Patterson in September 2016.
