A tragic incident on the Northwest Side of Chicago has resulted in a young motorcyclist being sentenced to four years in prison for reckless homicide by motor vehicle. Jonathan Jaimes, 21, pleaded guilty to the death of 26-year-old Camryn Green, who was fatally struck as she crossed the 6500 block of West Higgins Road on March 14, 2024.

According to prosecutors, Jaimes was captured on his helmet camera riding at speeds exceeding 150 mph on the Kennedy Expressway before exiting the highway in the afternoon. As he approached the intersection on Higgins Road, where drivers in both directions had stopped to allow Green to cross, Jaimes continued to speed past the stopped vehicles along the yellow center line. Witnesses reported hearing the motorcyclist revving his engine as he approached the intersection.

The helmet camera footage showed Jaimes speeding around the traffic and colliding with Green at a speed of 73 mph, causing her to be thrown into the southeast-bound traffic lanes. Green suffered severe head injuries and tragically passed away as a result of the collision. Jaimes and his motorcycle then crashed into one of the stopped vehicles, causing him to be ejected and sustain serious injuries.

Chicago police officers discovered the video camera attached to Jaimes’ helmet and obtained a search warrant to retrieve the footage. Judge Shelley Sutker-Dermer presided over Jaimes’ sentencing, with credit for time served in jail and the state’s standard 50% sentence reduction, leading to an expected parole date of December 18.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of obeying traffic laws and exercising caution on the roads to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Camryn Green during this difficult time.
