Armed Robberies Strike Wicker Park and Surrounding Areas
Recent reports of armed robberies have left residents in Wicker Park and nearby neighborhoods on edge, as a string of incidents have occurred over the past few days.
On Tuesday night around 10:46 p.m., a 20-year-old man fell victim to an armed robbery in the alley behind the 1300 block of North Leavitt Street. The man was approached by two male robbers in a black Chrysler sedan. One of the robbers brandished a firearm, demanding the victim’s belongings, which included his AirPods, phone, and work shoes. The offenders fled the scene in their vehicle, and no detailed description of them was provided by the police.
Just south of this location, two more armed robberies were reported late Sunday night into early Monday morning. In the first incident, which occurred around 9:55 p.m. on Sunday in the 1600 block of West Lake Street, a 22-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint by six offenders who arrived in two vehicles. The victim was forced to surrender his phone, and he was physically assaulted before the robbers fled in a black sedan and another unidentified vehicle.
Shortly after, at approximately 1:35 a.m. on Monday, a 27-year-old man was targeted near his residence in the 100 block of North Morgan Street. Two men approached him in a silver or gray Jeep, armed with a firearm, and attempted to rob him. The victim managed to seek refuge inside his building before the robbers could take anything, causing them to flee empty-handed.
Police are actively investigating these incidents, but no arrests have been made thus far. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
