A 13-year-old boy has been charged with shooting a 14-year-old victim in Chicago after a witness identified him as a student at a nearby elementary school. The incident took place on the sidewalk in the 1900 block of East 72nd Place, where the victim was shot in the thigh with a rifle at around 4:11 p.m. on Thursday, according to Chicago police.

The witness who called 911 to report the shooting recognized the gunman and his companion as students at Bouchet Elementary Math & Science Academy, located just a block away from the crime scene on 7355 South Jeffery Boulevard. Following the descriptions provided by witnesses, officers were able to locate and arrest the 13-year-old suspect in the 7200 block of South Merrill Avenue around 5 p.m. He is facing charges of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm and unlawful possession of a rifle.

The injured teen received treatment at the scene and is currently in fair condition. As of now, no further information about the accused boy has been disclosed, as his case is being handled in juvenile court where records are not publicly available.

This case highlights the importance of community involvement in identifying and apprehending suspects in criminal incidents. The swift action taken by the witness and law enforcement led to the arrest of the alleged shooter, ensuring accountability for the violent act.
