Tragic Murder-Suicide in Long Island Home Leaves Couple Dead
In a devastating turn of events, a 68-year-old Long Island man, identified as Paul Trefimovich, allegedly shot his girlfriend, Valerie Kopetic, 63, to death before taking his own life inside their shared home in Port Jefferson. The grisly discovery was made by Suffolk County police officers who were called to perform a welfare check at the residence after Kopetic failed to show up for work.
Upon arrival at the Oakwood Road residence, authorities were met with a gruesome sight as they found the lifeless bodies of both Trefimovich and Kopetic. It was determined that Trefimovich had fatally shot his partner before turning the gun on himself. The motive behind this tragic incident remains unclear.
Police were alerted to the situation by Kopetic’s employer, prompting them to respond to the scene just after 11 a.m. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the murder-suicide is ongoing, with authorities refraining from disclosing whether there were any prior instances of domestic disturbances at the couple’s home.
