Ice dancing siblings Kateřina Mrázková and Daniel Mrázek made their Olympic debut on Monday, showcasing a lifetime of dedication and practice. However, what caught the attention of many was their use of AI-generated music in their rhythm dance program, a choice that has sparked mixed reactions.

During their performance, as Mrázek executed a gravity-defying cartwheel-lift move with his sister, one of the NBC commentators casually mentioned that the music was AI-generated. This revelation added an extra layer of intrigue to their already mesmerizing routine on the Olympic ice.

The Olympic ice dance competition consists of two events: the rhythm dance and the free dance. This season’s theme revolves around the music, dance styles, and feelings of the 1990s. While other pairs paid tribute to iconic artists like the Spice Girls and Lenny Kravitz, the Czech duo opted for a unique blend of AC/DC and AI-generated music in their routine.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Mrázková and Mrázek have incorporated AI music into their performances. Earlier in the season, they faced criticism for using lyrics directly lifted from ’90s hits in their routines. Despite the controversy, they continued to push the boundaries with their music choices.

The duo’s music for the rhythm dance this season includes an AI-generated song titled “One Two” in the style of Bon Jovi, along with AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck.” While the use of AI in music creation is not against any official rules, it has raised questions about the authenticity and creativity of their performances.

The debate around AI-generated music extends beyond the ice dancing arena, with the music industry embracing the concept of virtual artists. Artists like Xania Monet, created using AI technology, have even secured multi-million dollar record deals, blurring the lines between human creativity and machine-generated content.

Despite the controversies surrounding their music choices, it’s essential to appreciate the skill and artistry that Kateřina Mrázková and Daniel Mrázek bring to the ice. While their use of AI music may add a unique twist to their performances, it also highlights the evolving landscape of creativity and technology in the world of sports and entertainment.
