One could hardly miss the way Trump’s expression sagged as he spoke. Yet again, he reverted to his favorite target: wind turbines. This time, he made some rather alarming claims about their supposed threat to aviation.
Trump asserted that windmills pose a risk to airliners:
“Between immigration and, you know, environmental issues like the windmills which are taking over, the people hate ‘em. The energy is by far the most expensive, and we’re fighting very hard to make sure that they don’t get built. I hope we don’t have one bill. During my administration, we inherited some contracts that have progressed somewhat.”
“We’re trying to terminate them for a lot of different reasons. One of those reasons, as you mentioned, is the endangerment to the military; it’s also a threat to airliners. So we’re trying to address those situations now. They should have never been allowed in the first place.”
Now, one might think that this behavior is typical of a president showing signs of cognitive decline, but Trump truly excelled in his efforts to keep himself awake while standing. It’s a performance best described as a blend of bewilderment and defiance, reminiscent of a child trying to stay up past bedtime.
