Sex Toy Maker Tenga Notifies Customers of Data Breach

Tenga, a popular sex toy maker, recently informed its customers about a data breach that occurred on Friday. The company sent an email to customers, letting them know about the unauthorized access to an employee’s professional email account.

According to the email, the hacker was able to gain access to the contents of the employee’s inbox, potentially compromising customer names, email addresses, and historical email correspondence. This breach could include sensitive information like order details and customer service inquiries.

In addition to accessing customer data, the hacker also sent spam emails to contacts in the hacked employee’s address book, including customers, as mentioned in the email sent to customers.

Tenga has not provided details on the total number of customers affected by the breach. The company, known for shipping over 162 million products worldwide, has not responded to requests for further information.

Given the nature of the products sold by Tenga, order details and customer service inquiries likely contain intimate information that customers may not want to disclose.

As a precautionary measure, Tenga has advised customers to change their passwords and remain vigilant for suspicious emails, especially those coming from the compromised employee’s account.

After the breach, Tenga took steps to enhance security, including resetting the hacked employee’s credentials and implementing multi-factor authentication across its systems to prevent unauthorized access.

Tenga, founded in 2005 in Japan with its headquarters in Tokyo, specializes in selling sex toys, primarily for men. It is unclear whether customers outside the United States were affected by the breach, as the email specifically came from Tenga Store USA.

This incident adds Tenga to the growing list of sex toy makers and adult websites that have fallen victim to data breaches, including Lovense, Pornhub, and SexPanther in recent years.
