Peter Steinberger Joins OpenAI After Creating OpenClaw

After gaining viral popularity as an AI personal assistant, Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, has recently announced his decision to join OpenAI.

Originally known as Clawdbot and then Moltbot, OpenClaw quickly rose to fame for its innovative approach to AI assistance, offering users the ability to accomplish various tasks such as managing calendars, booking flights, and even engaging in a social network comprised of other AI assistants. The name change from Clawdbot was prompted by legal concerns from Anthropic over its similarity to Claude, and later changed again to OpenClaw at Steinberger’s preference.

In a recent blog post detailing his decision to join OpenAI, Steinberger, a developer from Austria, expressed his desire to make a global impact rather than focusing solely on building a large company. He stated, “What I want is to change the world, not build a large company,” emphasizing his alignment with OpenAI’s mission to democratize AI technology.

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, announced on X that Steinberger will be spearheading the development of the next generation of personal agents within the organization. Altman also revealed that OpenClaw will transition into an open-source project under a foundation, with ongoing support from OpenAI to ensure its continued development and accessibility to the community.
