India is currently hosting a four-day AI Impact Summit with the aim of attracting more AI investment to the country. The event has attracted executives from major AI labs and Big Tech companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia, Microsoft, Google, and Cloudflare, as well as heads of state.

With an expected 250,000 visitors, the summit will feature prominent figures like Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis.

One of the highlights of the event is a speech scheduled to be delivered by India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.

Here are some key updates from the summit:

1. India has allocated $1.1 billion for its state-backed venture capital fund, which will focus on investing in artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing startups across the country.

2. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, revealed that India has over 100 million weekly active ChatGPT users, making it the second largest user base after the U.S. Additionally, Indians also represent the highest number of students using ChatGPT.

3. Blackstone has acquired a majority stake in Indian AI startup Neysa as part of a $600 million equity fundraising round. Other investors include Teachers’ Venture Growth, TVS Capital, 360 ONE Asset, and Nexus Venture Partners. Neysa plans to raise an additional $600 million in debt and deploy over 20,000 GPUs.

4. C2i, a Bengaluru-based company developing a power solution for data centers, raised $15 million in a Series A round from Peak XV, with participation from Yali Deeptech and TDK Ventures.

5. Vineet Nayyar, CEO of HCL, emphasized that Indian IT companies will prioritize profitability over job creation in light of the AI boom. This comes as Indian IT stocks face a dip amid concerns of AI disrupting the sector.

6. Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, warned that industries like IT services and BPOs could disappear within five years due to AI advancements. He urged young people in India to focus on selling AI-based products and services globally.

7. AMD is collaborating with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to develop rack-scale AI infrastructure based on AMD’s ā€œHeliosā€ platform.

8. Anthropic announced the opening of its first office in India, specifically in Bengaluru. The company highlighted India as the second largest user of Claude, after the U.S.

The AI Impact Summit serves as a platform for industry leaders to discuss the latest advancements in artificial intelligence and explore opportunities for investment and collaboration in India’s growing AI ecosystem.
