Mobile phones have become an essential part of our daily lives, carrying a wealth of personal information that needs to be kept secure. With the increasing number of Android apps accessing sensitive data and tracking domains, it is crucial for users to adjust their privacy settings to protect their personal data from unnecessary app tracking and permissions.

Tech Advisor has outlined seven essential Android privacy settings that users should adjust to enhance their privacy and security. These settings are important because many apps request excessive permissions for advertising purposes, potentially compromising user privacy and device performance. By making key adjustments to these settings, users can better control how their data is accessed and used by apps.

One important setting to review is the notification access granted to apps on your device. Some apps have the ability to mirror notifications on other devices, such as smartwatches or fitness bands. It is essential to review which apps have this access and disable it for apps that are not regularly used to prevent sensitive information from being exposed.

Another setting to consider is turning off nearby device scanning for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. While this feature can improve location accuracy, it can also result in increased background scans that may not be necessary for all users. Disabling this feature can help preserve battery life and enhance privacy.

Users should also delete their advertising ID to limit ad tracking on their device. Advertisers use this unique identifier to personalize ads based on app activity, but deleting the ID can make it harder for apps and ad networks to track user activity for targeted advertising.

Additionally, users can turn off usage and diagnostics data sharing with Google to limit the information shared with the tech giant. This setting is enabled by default on many devices but can be turned off without impacting the functionality of the device.

Reviewing apps with a “Display over other apps” permission and deciding which apps need unrestricted battery usage are also important steps in enhancing privacy and security on Android devices. By managing app permissions and restricting background activity for non-essential apps, users can better protect their personal data and device performance.

Overall, taking the time to review and adjust these essential Android privacy settings can help users maintain control over their data and enhance their privacy and security while using their devices.
