The Sony World Photography Awards recently wrapped up its 19th edition, attracting a record-breaking 430,000 submissions from photographers spanning over 200 countries and territories worldwide. The competition featured ten diverse categories, showcasing the stunning beauty of nature and society captured through the lens of talented photographers in 2025.

Among the category winners announced were Robby Ogilvie, whose vibrant shot of a vintage car against the backdrop of colorful buildings in Cape Town, South Africa, caught the eye of the judges. Additionally, Klaus Hellmich’s striking portrait of an arctic fox braving a blizzard stood out among the entries.

According to a statement released by the competition, the Open competition aims to highlight the power of individual images in sparking curiosity, igniting imagination, and telling a broader narrative. The top honor of Open Photographer of the Year will be revealed on April 16 in London, coinciding with the opening of the exhibition at Somerset House, running until May 4.

Some of the standout entries included Lisa Skelton’s captivating image of a seal swimming halfway above and below the water’s surface, ChenYu Hsieh’s mesmerizing shot of a giant religious statue framed by houses, and Brian Arancibia’s poignant snapshot of a child in traditional Andean attire on horseback.

Other notable entries featured a vast desert landscape in South America with a giant crescent moon in the sky captured by Francisco Lima Saraiva, a portrait of eight African American youths in front of a giant American flag by Jaylon Cooper, and a heartwarming image of a woman relaxing on the shoulder of her black cow in a barn by Vanta Coda III.
