Meta’s Threads App Introduces New Feature to Share Posts to Instagram Stories
Threads, Meta’s text-first app, has already amassed over 400 million monthly users and is now aiming to increase that number with a new feature launch. The latest addition to Threads allows users to seamlessly share posts on the app to their Instagram Stories, tapping into Instagram’s vast user base to attract more users to Meta’s X competitor.
The company unveiled the new feature on Thursday, enabling users to share a Threads post to their Instagram Story directly within the Threads app. This eliminates the need to switch between apps and offers a preview of how the post will appear on the Story.
Prior to this update, Threads users could share any post to their Instagram Story, similar to resharing an Instagram post. The app also provided tools for sharing posts to Instagram Feed or DMs, enhancing the overall user experience.
Threads, which debuted in July 2023, leveraged its integration with Instagram to quickly expand its user base. By requiring users to authenticate with their Instagram credentials, Threads could seamlessly import account details, including username, bio, photo, and followers. This streamlined onboarding process facilitated immediate connections with existing Instagram accounts.
Meta strategically utilized its other social platforms like Facebook and Instagram to promote Threads and drive user engagement. Popular Threads posts were showcased on Facebook, and a carousel of Threads posts was introduced to Instagram users. Additionally, users could effortlessly cross-post content from Instagram and Facebook to Threads, further enhancing its appeal.
These efforts have proven successful, as recent data from Similarweb revealed that Threads now surpasses Elon Musk’s X in daily mobile usage. While X remains dominant on the web, Threads has experienced significant growth, with monthly active users doubling from 200 million in August 2024 to 400 million in August 2025. In October, Threads also achieved a milestone of 150 million daily active users.
