22-Year-Old Lansing Man Arrested for Multiple Crimes While on Pretrial Release

A 22-year-old Lansing man, Devion Goodman, has been arrested five times since December 30 for various crimes. He is now facing charges of robbery and aggravated battery of a transit passenger after allegedly attacking and robbing a high school student on a downtown train platform while on pretrial release in three separate cases and wearing an electronic monitoring device.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on February 13 at around 2:45 p.m. on the Roosevelt Green Line platform. Goodman allegedly grabbed the 17-year-old Jones College Prep student’s cell phone and punched him in the face when the boy tried to retrieve it. He then knocked the teen to the ground, took his wallet, and fled the station.

Police were able to track the stolen phone to a location near 19th Street and the Dan Ryan Expressway, where they found Goodman hiding in a vacant lot beneath the highway. They discovered the victim’s cell phone, credit cards, and other personal belongings in Goodman’s possession.

At the time of the robbery, Goodman was on pretrial release in three pending cases and was required to remain inside his home after 7 p.m. while on electronic monitoring. He has been arrested multiple times since December 30 for various offenses.

One of Goodman’s previous arrests was for trespassing at a shelter in the South Loop on December 30. Despite being placed on electronic monitoring with a nighttime curfew, he was arrested again a week later for battery and trespassing. Subsequent arrests followed, including charges of public indecency, obstruction of police, resisting police, and trespassing.

Despite multiple arrests and violations of release conditions, Goodman was released on various occasions by different judges. Less than two weeks after his last release, he allegedly committed the robbery and assault on the high school student on the train platform.
