Fox Renews “Best Medicine” for Season 2
Fox has officially announced the renewal of the hit series “Best Medicine” for a second season. The show, which is an American adaptation of the popular British series “Doc Martin,” has been well-received by audiences since its debut in January. The first season is currently airing, with the season finale scheduled to air on March 10 on Fox and stream the following day on Hulu.
The show stars Josh Charles in the lead role, along with a talented ensemble cast including Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Annie Potts, and Cree. “Best Medicine” has quickly become a breakout hit for Fox, blending sharp humor with genuine heart. Liz Tuccillo serves as the executive producer and showrunner of “Best Medicine,” with Ben Silverman, Rodney Ferrell, Howard T. Owens, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite also serving as executive producers. The series is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and is based on the All3Media International format “Doc Martin,” originally produced in the U.K. by Buffalo Pictures in association with Homerun Film Productions. The U.S. adaptation was brought to audiences by Propagate Content.
The official synopsis of the show follows Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles), a skilled surgeon who decides to leave his prestigious career in Boston to become a general practitioner in a charming East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child with his Aunt Sarah (Annie Potts). In this quaint town, he encounters a diverse group of townspeople, including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin (Abigail Spencer), Sheriff Mark Mylow (Josh Segarra), and his assistant Elaine Denton (Cree).
“Best Medicine” has already garnered a significant viewership, with the series premiere attracting 12.6 million total multiplatform viewers. The show debuted following Fox’s Sunday NFL coverage before settling into its regular Tuesday timeslot on January 13.
