The DC Universe is about to get a whole lot greener with the upcoming series “Lanterns” from DC Studios. HBO recently dropped the first trailer for the highly anticipated show, set to debut in August.
“Lanterns” follows the story of Hal Jordan, portrayed by Kyle Chandler, and new recruit John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, as they delve into a murder mystery in the heart of Nebraska. As Green Lanterns, these two characters are responsible for maintaining peace across the galaxies, equipped with powerful emerald rings that grant them the ability to create constructs out of green light. Together, they must navigate through a dark conspiracy that threatens to unravel everything they know.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the dynamic between Hal and John, showcasing a mentor-mentee relationship as they tackle challenges together. From a daring car stunt to utilizing their Green Lantern powers to tackle obstacles, the duo must learn to trust each other to solve the enigma lurking in the small town. Fans can catch a quick look at the iconic Green Lantern costume, ring, and power battery, along with a nod to Ch’p, a unique extraterrestrial Green Lantern resembling a squirrel.
Joining the stellar cast are Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, the town sheriff; Nathan Fillion reprising his role as Guy Gardner, a member of the Green Lantern Corps; Garret Dillahunt as the modern-day cowboy William Macon; Poorna Jagannathan as the cunning Zoe; Ulrich Thomsen as the rogue Sinestro; Nicole Ari Parker as John’s mother Bernadette Stewart; and Jason Ritter as Kerry’s husband Billy Macon. Sherman Augustus will portray John Stewart Sr., with Paul Ben-Victor as the truth-seeking Antaan, and Chris Coy as the mysterious Waylon Sanders. Cary Christopher and Laura Linney are also set to make appearances in undisclosed roles.
