She learned the song, recorded it, and performed it beautifully,” Pilzer says. “It was such a special moment for all of us.”

The attention to detail doesn’t stop at the music. Pilzer is involved in every aspect of the show’s sonic landscape, from sound design to score. “We’re really thoughtful about where we’re using score versus songs,” she says. “We want to make sure everything feels cohesive and intentional.” The show’s composer, whose work is largely orchestral, is in constant dialogue with Pilzer to ensure the music serves the story. “It’s a balance,” she says. “But it’s one of the most exciting parts of the job.”

As “School Spirits” heads into its fourth season, Pilzer is excited about the possibilities ahead. “We’ve built this incredible world with these characters who feel so real,” she says. “There’s so much more story to tell, and I can’t wait to see where the music takes us next.”

With Pilzer at the helm, it’s clear that the music of “School Spirits” will continue to be a driving force behind the show’s emotional impact and cultural resonance. As fans eagerly await the next chapter of the series, they can rest assured that the soundtrack will be just as hauntingly beautiful as the ghosts that inhabit Split River High. The use of music in the hit television show is truly remarkable,” Pilzer comments. The inclusion of artists like McAlpine, Ethel Cain, Djo, Rachel Chinouriri, and others throughout multiple seasons is not just about brand consistency, but about creating a world within the show. Pilzer explains that the music is not just background noise, but a crucial element that shapes the world of the characters. It becomes a character in its own right, adding depth and emotion to the storytelling.

The show, which revolves around characters who struggle to move on, has a soundtrack that lingers long after the episode ends. The carefully curated music choices elevate the viewing experience, immersing the audience in the world of the show. By using familiar artists across seasons, the show creates a sense of continuity and familiarity for viewers. This intentional use of music adds another layer of storytelling, enhancing the overall narrative.

Overall, the music in the show plays a vital role in shaping the world of the characters and evoking emotions in the audience. It is a powerful tool that adds depth and complexity to the storytelling, making the show a truly immersive experience for viewers. The use of music as a character in its own right sets the show apart and leaves a lasting impact on those who watch it.
