During his Wednesday evening show, Stephen Colbert, host of the “Late Show,” took a jab at President Donald Trump’s administration for failing to anticipate the consequences of the war in Iran. Colbert pointed out that despite Trump’s self-proclaimed success as a businessman, many of his ventures, such as a casino, steaks, and an airline, have been unsuccessful.
Surprisingly, the administration was caught off guard by the spike in oil prices and the subsequent increase in gas prices in the U.S., as reported by Politico and cited by Colbert. Colbert humorously remarked, “You were surprised that bombing the place the oil comes from makes the oil cost more?”
Trump himself downplayed the price increase, stating that it was a “small price to pay” for the war effort. Colbert sarcastically commented, “Easy for him to say. He doesn’t pay for his own gas. That’s anyone who stands behind him.”
