A child has been rushed to the hospital with severe injuries after being struck by a car in a fast-food restaurant carpark in Invercargill.

Police were alerted to the incident at a McDonald’s carpark around 7pm this evening, where it was reported that a vehicle had collided with a child.

A police spokeswoman stated, “The child has been transported to the hospital in serious condition. Our officers have spoken with the driver of the vehicle, and investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.”

A spokesperson from Hato Hone St John confirmed that they had transferred one patient in serious condition to Southland Hospital, with two ambulances and a rapid response unit in attendance.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand also responded to the scene with trucks from the Invercargill and Kingswell stations. Fortunately, no one was trapped, and they handed over the situation to St John before departing.
