A shocking incident occurred in the Loop on Friday night when a shoplifter shot a convenience store clerk, leaving the victim critically injured. The shooting took place at the 7-Eleven located at 191 West Adams Street around 10:41 p.m., as reported by Chicago police and witnesses. According to CPD, an unidentified man entered the store, stole items, and attempted to leave without paying. When the clerk confronted him outside, the suspect pulled out a gun and opened fire.
The 31-year-old victim sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and back and was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Three shell casings were recovered from the sidewalk in front of the store, and the store’s glass door was also shattered by bullets.
Witnesses described the gunman as a Black man in his late 20s to early 30s, wearing a black jacket and black hoodie. This unfortunate incident marks the fourth shooting victim in the Loop in 2026, a stark contrast to no reported shooting victims at the same time last year and three in 2024.
