Uma Wang’s latest menswear collection, “A Tale About a Bhutanese Trip,” presented in the spring of 2026, is a testament to the designer’s transformative journey to Bhutan. The collection, showcased at her Milan boutique, serves as a bridge between the creators of the garments and the individuals who wear them, creating a profound connection rooted in shared life experiences.
For Wang, the trip to Bhutan was more than just a physical journey—it was a spiritual and emotional awakening. “I had dreamed of traveling to Bhutan for a long time, and it touched me deeply on an emotional level,” Wang shared. “It was a journey of stairways, faces, and encounters. I discovered a culture deeply woven into daily life and an abundance of beauty that demands respect.”
Wang found inspiration in the elegance of Bhutanese traditional attire, particularly the Gho, the traditional men’s garment. This season, she incorporated elements of Bhutanese dress into her collection, marking the tenth anniversary of her brand’s menswear line. The collection features a fusion of Bhutanese tradition and contemporary style, with the addition of T-shirts and sneakers to complement the Gho.
The fabrics used in the collection were meticulously chosen to reflect the harmony of nature and culture in Bhutan. Silk, linen, and raw cotton were selected for their natural properties, including water-repellence. Hand-embroidered pinstripe effects and cold-dyed fabrics added a touch of human craftsmanship and imperfection, celebrating the beauty of irregularities. Jacquard flowers and textured hand-feel fabrics paid homage to the intricate flora and unexplored territories of Bhutan.
The silhouettes in the collection were fluid and generous, designed to embrace rather than constrict.
