Like Raven-Symoné, Demi Lovato has her own idea of a “Mount Rushmore” for Disney Channel icons.
“It would definitely be Raven, Hilary [Duff], and I honestly agreed with her answer,” Lovato, 33, mentioned during the Wednesday, March 18, episode of the “Chicks in the Office” podcast. “Hers definitely resonated.”
Symoné, 40, appeared on an episode of the “Stepping Into the Shade Room” podcast and was asked about the most influential alumni of the Mouse House. The That’s So Raven star selected herself, Duff, 38, Shia LaBeouf, and Lee Thompson Young.
“I would put in The Famous Jett Jackson,” Symoné said regarding Young, who passed away in August 2013 at the age of 29. “He is no longer with us, but he was the first Black show on Disney. Lee Thompson Young played … Jett Jackson, and I believe he should be on Disney Rushmore. He definitely deserves a spot.”
Lovato suggested that the lineup should also consider the Mickey Mouse Club.
“There were people on Disney Channel prior to everyone I just named, like Britney [Spears] and Christina [Aguilera],” the Camp Rock star noted about the All-New Mickey Mouse Club variety show that also featured Justin Timberlake and Keri Russell. “Does that come first? Does that count? But, maybe not.”
Lovato was uncertain whether the Mickey Mouse Club cast should be included as they “didn’t transform Disney Channel into what it is.”
“I think Raven really did, Hilary really did that and I’m blanking on [who else she included],” she said before the hosts reminded her that Even Stevens star LaBeouf, 39, was also on Symoné’s list.
She responded, “I’m OK on that one, yeah, we can pass.”
Years after LaBeouf starred in Even Stevens, he encountered several legal issues and was recently arrested in New Orleans following an alleged altercation that he attributed to a “small man complex.”
Lovato, who appeared in Disney’s Sonny With a Chance and Camp Rock, further admitted that she, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus shouldn’t be on the same Rushmore.
“They came before us, you know what I mean?” she commented. “They paved the way, and I think there could be a second Mount Rushmore for Disney Channel, which would probably include Jonas Brothers, Miley, Selena, and hopefully me. Then, there might be another one for all the Disney stars that have followed, like Zendaya and Sabrina Carpenter.”
Lovato, however, was evasive when asked by the Barstool podcasters which Jonas Brothers member should top the secondary Rushmore. When it was suggested that Joe, 36, might take precedence over his brothers Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas, Lovato laughed.
Lovato, who is now married to Jordan Lutes, dated Joe intermittently during their Disney days. They last reunited on the set of the upcoming Camp Rock 3, where Joe and his brothers make an appearance, while Lovato took on a production role.
